Federal and state officials are cracking down on mortgage modification scams, accusing scam artists of preying on desperate homeowners caught up in the nation’s mortgage crisis. Government officials said that scammers are taking advantage of borrowers in danger of defaulting by changing their upfront fees of $1000 to $3000 for help with loan modifications that rarely pay off. James Island Real Estate holders are asked to be wary of any calls or letters touting instant credit and loan modification cures.
These frauds often come from official sounding names using Obama administration efforts to help modify and refinance 7 million to 9 million mortgages nationwide.
